With the series not appearing on our screens until later in the year, the only way to fill that TARDIS shaped hole in our hearts is by filling it with as many Doctor Who products as possible.

What are you most looking forward to? What predictions do you have for the next series? Which character do you want to see turned into a toy? Forbidden Planet 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London played host to:

Tim Lebbon signing Echo City, set in a vast, toxic desert, the inhabitants believe there is no other life in their world, until a stranger arrives, which challenges this assumption.

Dr Simon Morden signing Degrees Of Freedom, the third in the Metrozone series of books, set in the decaying urban jungle of a future London

Philip Palmer signing The Hell Ship. The Hell Ship hurtles through space. Inside the ship are thousands of slaves, each the last of their race. The Hell Ship and its infernal crew destroyed their homes, slaughtered their families and imprisoned them forever.

Nicole Peeler signing Tempest Rising. Jane True always knew she didn't quite fit in with so-called normal society. On Saturday July 23rd 2011,FORBIDDEN PLANET was delighted to host one of our trademark multi-author signings at the megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London.

Alan Cowsill, Eva Perkins, Grant Perkins, David Leach, G M Jordan, Kev Hopgood, Jessica S Kemp, Si Spencer, Tim Pilcher, Jason Atomic, Jasper Bark, Jon Haward, Peter Hogan, Gary Gilbert, Dan Rachael, Martin Eden, Martyn Pick, Natalie Abadzis and many more all visited for this special charity event.

The British comics community came together to help raise funds for disaster victims of New Zealand and Japan’s earthquakes and tsunami with a stunning new graphic novel anthology, Spirit of Hope.

Comic Book Alliance Chair Tim Pilcher, said, ‘When the earthquake hit Japan on the afternoon of 11 March 2011 the CBA, like the rest of the world, was stunned. Overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the disaster we felt impotent to do anything. But standing idly by was simply not an option. So we did what comics people do best, we put a call out to the artistic community and asked for a strip, pin-up or anything that encapsulated that devastating situation for them.’

Over 85 writers, artists, colourists, letterers and editors from across the globe all donated their time and work free of charge, to produce a powerful statement, all within an incredible two and a half weeks after the Japanese tsunami hit. Consequently, the stories have a raw emotiveness and impact that can only come from such immediacy.

Christopher Foss Signing at Forbidden Planet Megastore

Grant Morrison Signing Supergods at Forbidden Planet Megastore

Grant Morrison visited the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Wednesday 6th July 2011, to sign copies of his book, SUPERGODS, which charts the history of Superheroes.

In Alderman’s Borrowed Time, Time is the business of Mr Symington and Mr Blenkinsop. They’ll lend you some – at a very reasonable rate of interest. Detecting a problem, the Doctor, Amy and Rory go undercover – but they have to move fast to stop Symington and Blenkinsop before they cash in their investments.

In Mann’s Paradox Lost, it’s London 2789 – and the remains of an ancient android are dredged from the Thames. When reactivated it has a warning that can only be delivered to a man named ‘the Doctor’. The Doctor must solve a mystery that has spanned over a thousand years – if he fails. the deadly alien Squall will devour the world.

In Morris’ Touched by an Angel, Rebecca Whitaker has died in a road accident – and her husband is given the chance to go back and save her.

Fluorescent Black takes readers into the hard-hitting dark future of South East Asia where gene-tech has divided the human race into two races, and both the utopian and dystopian futures exist in near proximity. Known for it provocative ideas and scientific accuracy, Fluorescent Black has been praised by biotechnology web rings and counter-culture magazines as a seminal "bio-punk" novel. A visceral ride through a bio-punk future where life is cheap and death is the only way out.

Over the course of Hunter S. Thompson's extraordinary life, he was publicly branded a bum, a vandal, a thief, a liar, an addict, a freak and a psychopath. Some of these were true. Yet, even when compared to the most significant figures of the 20th century, his legacy remains a brilliantly vital force.

This is his story - the story of a troubled kid who went on to become an international icon, a story that plumbs the darkest depths of American society and charts the now-legendary adventures that birthed Gonzo journalism and a lifestyle beyond imagination.

IAIN M. Michael Moorcock has won the Guardian Fiction Prize for The Condition of Muzak, and been shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize for Mother London. He’s best-loved through, for the epic characters he has created Elric, Jerry Cornelius and Colonel Pyat. Former rock singer Hollis Henry has lost a lot of money in the crash, which means she can't turn down the offer of a job from Hubertus Bigend, sinister Belgian proprietor of mysterious ad agency Blue Ant. Milgrim is working for Bigend too. Bigend admires the ex-addict's linguistic skills and street knowledge so much that he's even paid for his costly rehab. So together Hollis and Milgrim are at the front line of Bigend's attempts to get a slice of the military budget, and they gradually realize he has some very dangerous competitors. Which is not a great thought when you don't much trust your boss either.

William Gibson first novel Neuromancer sold more than six million copies worldwide. In an earlier short story, Gibson had coined the phrase 'cyberspace', and he developed the concept in the novel, creating an iconography for the Information Age long before widespread use of the Internet. Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive completed his first trilogy. He has since written six further novels, moving gradually away from science fiction and futuristic work, instead writing about the strange contemporary world we inhabit. His most recent novels are Pattern Recognition and Spook Country, both available in Penguin. He was born in South Carolina but has lived in Vancouver, Canada for many years.

IAIN M. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Warriors are also set to be betrayed by another member willing to follow Volkhan and his destructive cause. And just who is the mysterious resistance figure known as the ‘Urban Fox’?

In China Miéville’s KRAKEN, a prize specimen has come to the Natural History Museum – a giant squid, whole and perfectly preserved. When it disappears, curator Billy Harrow finds himself in a city of warring cults and surreal magic – and the forthcoming end of the world.

APARTMENT 16 by Adam Nevill is wonderfully written, deftly plotted tale of utter horror which will have you turning the lights on in the middle of the night.

CITY OF RUIN by Mark Charan Newton is the follow-on to the massively successful Nights of Villjamur, taking us back to the lands of the Red Sun. When Tom Taylor's father created the mega-popular Tommy Taylor boy-wizard fantasy novels, he catapulted his son into low-level celebrity. But Wilson Taylor has disappeared and conspiracy theories abound that Tom may not even have been his son. Then a scandal hints that he might really be the boy-wizard made flesh – the characters from the book begin to appear around him and he discovers a mysterious, deadly group has been secretly watching him, and sets off to travel to all the places in world history where fictions have shaped reality.

Mike Carey’s work in has encompassed everything from a biographical comic of Ozzy Osbourne to the astounding and Eisner Award-nominated Lucifer. The list of credits and titles to his name is as sparkling as it is long – and the publication of his Felix Castor series of novels have proved that he can move format without losing his insight, skill or passion.

After years of struggle, Elena Michaels - journalist, investigator, werewolf - has finally come to terms with her strange fate, and learned how to control her wild side. Ignatius Perrish spent the night drunk and doing terrible things. He woke up the next morning with a raging headache… and a pair of horns growing from his temples. Ig had been born into privilege, the second son of a renowned American musician, and the younger brother of a rising late-night TV star. He’d had it all – and he’d had the love of Merrin Williams, a love founded on shared daydreams, mutual daring, and unlikely midsummer magic. Then Merrin was gone, raped and murdered, with Ig the only suspect. Now Ig is possessed with a terrible new power to go with his terrible new look – and he will find the man who killed Merrin and destroyed his life. Being good and praying for the best got him nowhere. It's time for a little revenge; it's time the devil had his due.

The son of Stephen King (no pressure!), Joe's debut novel was the astounding Heart Shaped Box and he is also the co-creator of the successful Locke and Key comic series.

ALASTAIR REYNOLDS SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET
Alastair Reynolds. joined us at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Saturday 13th March to sign his new book, Terminal World

TED DIBIASE Jr. & THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN at FORBIDDEN PLANET

Forbidden Planet was pleased to announce an event with TED DIBIASE Jr. and THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2H 8JR on Friday 5th March 2010

PAT MILLS & CLINT LANGLEY SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET

Forbidden Planet was delighted to host a signing by Pat Mills and Clint Langley on Saturday 27th February 2010
They were signing ABC Warriors: The Volgan War Volume 2 at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London.

He’s since worked on various comic strips such as Slaine, Judge Dredd and Warhammer.

ANDY DIGGLE & JOCK SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET

On Friday 25th February 2010 the winning (I know, I know!) team of Andy Digggle and Jock visited the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, to sign copies of The Losers

JEREMY DYSON & ANDY NYMAN SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET
Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman visited the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Monday 22nd February 2010 to sign posters promoting the theatrical performances of Ghost Stories

Ghost Stories, ran at the Lyric Hammersmith, London from 24 February to 03 April 2010, was a truly terrifying theatrical experience from The League of Gentlemen’s master of the macabre, Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator and director of Derren Brown’s television and stage shows and star of Dead Set and Severance.

All you had to do was be at the signing of their latest titles Edge and Servant of the Underworld at Forbidden Planet’s London Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue on Friday 12th February 2010

This was a unique opportunity to interview the authors – and to speak to them about their work – after the signing.

Writing as Thomas Blackthorne, JOHN MEANEY brings us the terror of Knife Edge – the reality TV show where wannabe blade fighters are the celebrities in a nation going to hell. Take a bloodied trip through a future London where prime-time gladiatorial combat has taken on a deadly bite.

ALIETTE DE BODARD is a winner of the Writers of the Future Award and a Campbell Award finalist. Servant of the Underworld is her debut novel, an Aztec mystery-fantasy featuring ghostly jaguars, bloodthirsty Gods and fingernail-eating monsters – and revealing her passion for, and knowledge of, Aztec mythology and culture.

[forty-five] Event at Forbidden Planet Megastore

On Thursday 4 February 2010, our ‘45’ event brought together an all-star creator-cast for one of our famous and trademark free-form signings – no tables, no queues.
Peter Serafinowicz is a cult figure, known by fans for his show-stealing appearances in Spaced, Black Books, How Do You Want Me?, Look Around You and Shaun of the Dead. He also has a hugely credible list of guest appearances to his name – including, famously, providing the voice for Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace.

In Grandville, Talbot brings us a glorious steampunk masterpiece. Inspired by the work of the nineteenth-century French illustrator Gerard, it tells the story of detective Inspector LeBrock of Scotland Yard as he stalks a gang of murderers through the heart of Belle Epoque Paris. In this alternative reality, France is the major world power and its capital is thronged with steam-driven hansom cabs, automatons and flying machines. The characters are mostly animals, though there is an underclass of humans who resemble the 'clear-line' characters of Herge's Tintin books. Grandville is an audacious rollercoaster ride that will add to Talbot's reputation as one of the best graphic novelists in the world.

Listing the accomplishments of Bryan Talbot is a daunting task – arguably the creator of the first British graphic novel, ‘The Adventures of Luther Arkwright’, the credits to his name are too numerous to mention. He started in the underground comics scene of the late 1960s and his work has spanned the flagship series of 2000AD as well as Batman, Sandman, Hellblazer amd Fables. The Observer described his last graphic novel, Alice in Sunderland, as ‘…one of the most exhilarating books in years’.

50 Best Of The Best Graphic Novels

IAN RANKIN SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET 09

On Wednesday 25th November 2009 International best-selling crime writer, Ian Rankin visited

He became a full-time writer in 1979, signed on as a story editor for Twilight Zone at CBS in 1986 and then moved onto being Co-Supervising Producer for Beauty and the Beast.
Best-known and loved for his tremendous ongoing epic A Song of Ice and Fire, he’s also written many other novels and short stories.

Songs of the Dying Earth is an all-star 'tribute album' by some of the biggest names in modern SF and Fantasy, featuring twenty-three stories set in Jack Vance’s vivid Dying Earth setting. The Sun has grown old, bloated and red and is about to go out; humanity, now capable of magic, shares the much-changed Earth with hostile races. This multi-author voyage of discovery is edited by George R R Martin and Gardner Dozios; within it, Martin delivers a dark and horrific story that invokes his background as a horror writer.

In a record-breaking event in 1980, the late, great Douglas Adams did a legendary signing at Forbidden Planet on Denmark Street, London – a signing that took up half-a-dozen pages in his biography.
It was a very special moment for us to welcome Eoin Colfer, to sign the sixth book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy And Another Thing at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Wednesday 14th October 2009.
Adams himself said that the Hitchhiker’s series deserved a sixth book to end the story on an upbeat note; Eoin Colfer, best known for his wonderful Artemis Fowl series, is a true follower of Adams’ legacy with his views of the absurdities of life, the universe and everything.

Alongside Watchmen and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - Howard Chaykin's American Flagg! was a massive-selling hit in the 1980s, breaking new ground in comics storytelling and influencing a generation of writers and artists. In America, in 2031, TV star Reuben Flagg is drafted to protect the citizens of Chicago as a Plexus Ranger. The inexperienced Flagg must tackle an America blighted by a biased and oppressive media, dubious 'wars', widespread corruption and environmental disaster. Never-before collected, this bitingly prescient satirical series is an all-time classic.
Howard Chaykin has had an illustrious career, writing for more than comics. As well as American Flagg!, he illustrated the original Star Wars comics, and wrote and illustrated Blackhawk, The Shadow, Black Kiss, Time(Squared) and, more recently, Challengers of the Unknown. In television, he wrote for Earth: Final Conflict and The Flash; he was also Executive Consultant on Mutant X and Supervising Producer on Viper.

IAIN M. BANKS SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET
On Saturday 5th September 2009, Iain M Banks visited us at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, to sign copies of Transition

A world hangs suspended between triumph and catastrophe, frozen in the shadow of suicide terrorism and global financial collapse – Transition is set in a world that needs a firm hand. Instead, it has is the Concern, an all-powerful organisation with a malevolent presiding genius and numberless invisible operatives. Among these are Temudjin Oh, an unkillable assassin and a faceless torturer known only as the Philosopher. And then there's the renegade, rebel-recruiting Mrs Mulverhill, and Patient 8262, hiding out from a dirty past in a forgotten hospital ward. As these vivid, strange and sensuous worlds circle and collide, the implications of turning traitor to the Concern become horribly apparent, and an unstable universe is set on a dizzying course.

Hugo Award winner Iain was born in Fife and educated at Stirling University where he read English Literature, Philosophy and Psychology. He gained widespread and controversial public notice in 1984 with his first novel, The Wasp Factory and went on to create of SFs best-loved fictional settings – the ‘Culture’ in novels such as Consider Phlebas and Player of Games. Amanda Palmer grew up dreaming of being an artist, a performer and a provocateur. She’s moved from an eight-foot Living Bride statue to one half of the cabaret punk duo The Dresden Dolls into work as a solo artist both inspirational and controversial. Among her continuous and eclectic collection of creative projects, she spins time to be singer and songwriter, audacious pianist and film-maker – all genre-shattering and massively expressive.

Who Killed Amanda Palmer is the photographic and literary interpretation of her Ben Folds-produced solo debut. Featuring a collection of soft, dark and beautiful images of Amanda’s own death and collected over fourteen years of travelling the world, the book also offers stories by Neil Gaiman. The book is fascinating, tragic and compelling – Beth Hommel describes it as, ‘…many shades of murder; equal parts horror and humor’. Intrigued or shocked, it’s a book that begs a reaction.

JAMIE SMART SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET

On Thursday 27th August 2009 Jamie Smart joined us at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, to sign copies of Ubu Bubu: Filth

A revenge story to rival Kill Bill for violence and dark humour, Best Served Cold tells the story of Monza Murcatto, the most feared mercenary in Duke Orso’s employ. Her victories have made her rich and very popular, a little too popular for her employer. Monza is betrayed, beaten and left for dead at the bottom of a mountain, with only the burning desire for revenge driving her onwards.

His novels are enjoyed by those who love fantasy as well as those who like to lose themselves in the complex plotting of the richest, and grittiest, historical epics.

CHARLES STROSS SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET

On Friday 1st May 2009 we were visited by Hugo Award winner Charles Stross.

In Hitman, one of pro wrestling's biggest stars tells it like it was, with a human and very touching amount of detail. He relates the story of how a family-friendly, locally oriented sport run by curmudgeonly promoters was steamrollered by Hulk Hogan - fueled WWF marketing machine. Hart also vividly depicts the threadbare but thrilling family business he grew up in, road trips in crowded vans, meager pay, clownish ring antics and solid sense of brotherhood. This is a glance under the ropes of pro-wrestling, from one of its biggest stars.

Bret Hart is recognised as one of the best wrestlers in the world. Multiple record-holder and winner of manifold titles, he is known for never having injured another wrestler.

GERRY ANDERSON SIGNING AT FORBIDDEN PLANET

On Saturday 11 April 2009, UK TV Legend Gerry Anderson visited us at Forbidden Planet Megastore to sign copies of Century 21: Classic Comic Strips of Gerry Anderson

Gerry Anderson’s illustrious career has spanned over 50 years and has created many iconic series including, the world famous Thunderbirds, Stingray, UFO, Space 1999 and Captain Scarlet which has recently returned to television screens in the all new CGI series.

THRILL POWER OVERLOAD – 2000FP!
FORBIDDEN PLANET teamed up with 2000AD to celebrate our 20000th (nearly!) signing!
